Hilary Gauci
A self-taught painter Hilary has always held a fascination for still life and she has developed her subject matter and style to crisp, uncluttered with a hint of old masters. Her painting style has evolved after trying many different mediums until she started using alkyd oil paints. Their brilliance, depth of colour and speed of drying suited Hilary and she strives with each painting to improve on the last. Her paintings are of antique China or silverware paired with fruits, eggs, feathers and sometimes flowers. Her compositions are of dark backgrounds, bright colourful fruits on polished wooden surfaces and often reflecting her studio in her silverware and finished with layers of varnish. She lives and works in Aberdeenshire and her work has grown in popularity as her painting has developed and she now exhibits throughout Scotland and is collected by many.
